This site will be smiley friendly
As you will soon find out, I prefer to have a stable of smileys for both forums as well as blog posts.
While it might not be the most ‘professional’ means to an end, it remains part of my online personality wherever I go.
In that vein, I find that the standard smileys supplied by WordPress just don’t fit with my taste and that led me to search out a plugin that would allow adding new smileys, configuring shortcuts for them while writing posts and comments and finally rendering them when someone views the page.
Enter WP-Smileys !
WordPress has yet no settings for changing the smileys. This plug-in disables WordPress default smileys and allows you to choose what smileys to use. If you have created an own smiley pack you can use that one as well.
This is a very simple plugin and I’m surprised it isn’t rated higher, although I do see the author isn’t updating it anymore and has moved on to a newer / improved one. I guess some people want more pizazz and I’m not one to ignore the bling when needed, however this suffices and does a great job.
Once configured, the smiley button in the editor pops up with a list of smileys and you click to add desired one to the post.
I’ll be using the same smiley codes in the blog as well as the forum so as to make life easier for post authors.
After awhile, I find that the codes are memorized and the popup is never really needed from that point on. In the meantime, the popup works fine.
That’s it!

OMG!
Smiley World.
Just ignore the man behind the curtain.. Testing smileys in comments..
Ok, the smiley button is on the left.
I still have issues with the pop-up window not being positioned properly
But I think with a little sleep and some fresh css, it’ll be working properly tomorrow..
